What's trending in 2019?

Updated: May 14, 2019

Every year?

Every year, members of the Color Marketing Group® get together and identify the direction of colour and design trends and translate them into saleable colours for manufactured products, including paint. The 2019 Valspar Colour Forecast was announced back in 2018.

CMG members analyze thousands of colours, attend numerous ChromaZone® Colour Forecasting Workshops and CMG regional Conferences, and travel the globe in search of the next big thing. The result of all this hard work is the famed World Colour Forecast™—a look at anticipated colour trends from North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America.

The Forecast identifies 16 colours from each region, along with the influences and inspirations that define them, and it provides a wealth of colour insight to colour-design professionals, allowing them the opportunity to focus on the most trending colours for a specific region in a given year.

Take a look at this video from the largest paint company in the world - Sherwin Williams. You'll know it as Valspar in NZ and Australia (Wattyl). I hope it gives you loads of inspiration.

So while it may be good to know what the latest trends are, it's not likely you will want to repaint your home every year. Certainly not the exterior. And, there is no need. Valspar exterior paints come with a 'lifetime guarantee'. By lifetime, they mean for as long as you own the house. So, the colour is going to be around for some time and selecting the right colour deserves a bit of thought.

What about the interior? Depending on your lifestyle and timing, you may be doing some DIY a little more often. Young children grow into teenagers and want their own identity. You may have purchased a home or rental property and it's not to your taste. That kitchen and/or bathroom may have finally have been renovated now you want/need to spruce up the rest of the house. Or you may simply just want a change. A fresh coat of paint works wonders and is an affordable way to make a huge difference.

There are two great things in your favour. Firstly, Valspar Change in a Day tips give you lots of great advice to make the job painless. If you're not sure the staff at Mitre 10 are experts. Secondly, Valspar offers the Love Your Colour Guarantee which takes away the stress of making the wrong colour choice.

So, time to stop procrastinating. You know once the jobs done, you'll wish you'd done it sooner.

In my next blog, we can explore the trends in more detail. So that's each of the four colour palettes selected for 2019. In the meantime, here's another video to help get you 'on trend'.

Colour Forecast 2019

Craft, technology and wellness intersect. Sensorial tactility will be at the core of living spaces, with an emphasis on calm and inclusive designs. Simplicity will be celebrated in both aesthetics and constructions, in line with a growing urge for products that feel more honest and thoughtful. Minimalism will continue to flourish through the use of colour and tactility and design instills emotion.

Do you want to create a space you can't wait to come home to?
